82 [01:40:34] <BlakesSeven> Hey all. I need some help
understanding something. Running Debian 10.7. I installed a murmur
server (mumble). I can access the server from another computer on my
lan, however, if I attempt to access it via my external address via
another computer connected to another network I can't connect
to it. However, if I change my port forwarding to another computer
also running a mumble server then I am able to access the mumble
server. So whatever is
83 [01:40:34] <BlakesSeven> preventing me from accessing the
mumble server seems limited to my new Debian 10.7 install. I'm
just not sure what it would be when I can access the mumble server
from the local network but not from an external network.
84 [01:41:25] <BlakesSeven> The other computer running a mumble
server is Debian 9. So I guess something changed that I'm not
aware of between the versions?

87 [01:47:12] <fuxxy> Well, being able to contact the mumble
daemon from another machine on the same network rules out a local
firewall. The only thing I can think of is some sort of routing or
DNS issue (if you use internal DNS)
88 [01:47:45] <fuxxy> what does the firewall use to specify the
mumble server? IP? Hostname?

I literally changed the same port forwarding rule on the router to
put to the ip addess of the other mumble server and it work. Port
number is the same.
91 [01:48:45] <sney> if something changed between mumble
versions in debian it'll probably be listed in:

102 [01:53:48] <fuxxy> I can only think of one defininitive test.
Set up your port forward to point to the mumble server, but on a
different nearby port. Then, set up a simple listener like tftp on
that port and see if you can connect from WAN.

104 [01:56:36] <fuxxy> again, you can connect over LAN, so
connectivity to the daemon isnt the issue. You can also point the
port forward to another machine, so the port forward itself isnt the
issue. The only things left to suspect are RouterFirewall rules and
maybe defaultGateway settings on the mumble server host.
