479 [05:58:18] <defnotarobot> Hey everyone. I'm trying to
install Buster on a laptop with a broken screen. I want to use it as
a server so I really just need working sshd, and intend to run it
headless. Anyone have any good idea on how to run the installation
over ssh? It's no use to attach an external monitor to it,
because it won't recognise it until Windows if fully booted.

483 [06:00:46] <defnotarobot> annadane: any idea how I go about
that?
484 [06:01:09] <annadane> it's an option in the regular
installer
485 [06:01:28] <annadane> there's "install" and
"graphical install", you want the former
486 [06:01:40] <annadane> AFAIK
487 [06:01:43] <JackFrost> The problem is that he most likely
can't press buttons, so it has to boot into ssh mode.
488 [06:01:46] <defnotarobot> That sounds like something
you'd have to see to select
489 [06:02:02] <annadane> i need to remind myself of how the
installer works
490 [06:02:03] <defnotarobot> JackFrost: that's right
491 [06:02:14] <JackFrost> Preseeding, perhaps?
492 [06:02:41] <defnotarobot> I was reading about it, but a bit
confused on how to actually introduce the preseed file to the image
on a usb

494 [06:03:14] <defnotarobot> Tried mounting it in a linux system

495 [06:03:48] <defnotarobot> Seems like it would be easier if
there were a live usb with sshd enabled by default
496 [06:04:30] <JackFrost> That's likely how I'd do it,
might have to manually install but that's not too hard to do
anyway.

500 [06:07:14] <annadane> the only thing is it's not

1718 [19:39:56] <Terrell> magic_ninja, CLONEZILLA LOOKS VERY GOOD.
However some issues. This machine does not have linux available. I
have another machine sitting in Grub. I haven't look up the
Grub commands yet. I used LILO before. I can insert an SD and
install Linux on it... its the same SD I was planning on copyiung my
other system to. Problem is the target SD is 128 GB and the source
HDD is 160 GB of which 73 GB is used. I also have a TB HDD and it
might not have a
1719 [19:39:57] <Terrell> filesystem on it. I plan on storing a
few system images on that drive and I need to figure out what to use
1) as a format and 2) the tools to do the backup itself. I think I
should be able to make the TB HDD bootable under Linux so I have
some real tools and not the kids stuff eye candy M$ seems to want to
feed us.
1720 [19:41:14] <magic_ninja> Terrell, it is a bootable USB. You
don't run clonezilla from linux. You just make a boot USB drive
from it. So basically, you would make your OS install USB key, make
a clonezilla USB key and then reboot into clonezilla.
1721 [19:41:47] <magic_ninja> Clonezilla can clone and restore
windows disks no problem. Make sure there is enough room on your 1TB
HDD, as you will use it to store your images. Clonezilla calls that
the "Repository"
