21 [00:21:59] <zodd> On Buster, openjdk11 is the default. I have
a java app which uses deprecated libs from jdk8. How can I best add
these libs? Preferably as .deb packages? (and find out which ones
are needed (I assume I need to use jdeps for that)?
22 [00:22:51] <randompleb> i think its openjdk-8-jdk?
23 [00:23:25] <sney> debian doesn't distribute multiple
java versions within one release.
24 [00:23:35] <sney> best bet is probably through java-package:
25 [00:23:38] <sney> !java-package
26 [00:23:38] <dpkg> java-package (formerly mpkg-j2se,
j2se-package) provides the make-jpkg utility for creating Debian
packages from manually downloaded <Java> distributions; Oracle
Java 6 (update >= 10) and Oracle Java 7 are currently supported.
java-package is available for Debian 7 "Wheezy" and later
systems in <contrib>.

27 [00:24:20] <zodd> I understood jdk8 is a LTS release, but it
is old even for Debian standards
28 [00:24:21] <somiaj> zodd: why does it have to be a .deb, java
is fairly self contained
29 [00:24:38] <somiaj> just extra java to /opt or somewhere, and
setup JAVA_HOME approeprtly
30 [00:24:58] <somiaj> maybe link the java binary to
/usr/local/bin if you don't want to type out the full path.
31 [00:25:02] <zodd> I like a single package management system.
Simplifies maintainability.
32 [00:25:14] <randompleb> Yes somiaj is right. Debian buster

1095 [15:49:30] <MichaZ> Phew. I made a bit progress with my
akonadi troubles. But stuck again. The problem is a SQL command in
setup which creates 2 TIMESTAMP tables. That was not possible with
MySQL 5.5 (would work with 5.6). It would work with MariaDB (which
is 15.1 and can do that since 10.0). But... how do I get akonadi to
use mariadb instead of mysql?

because I just updated this system since Debian 7 or so.
